Keeping up with the latest in education technology
The results of OECD's Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA), which is considered as a global benchmark in educational assessments, have been published yesterday after a postponement due to Covid-19.
Read this piece by the European EdTech Alliance for a comprehensive overview of the key takeaways for digital education from the reports.
👉 Crucial Recommendations from the Council of the European Union
On 23 November, the Council adopted two recommendations to address the need to make education fit for a genuine digital transformation. The EU aims for 80% of the population aged 16-74 to have basic digital skills by 2030. The Netherlands has already made significant strides with a 79% proficiency rate, surpassing the EU's average of 54%.
Council of the EU adopted the following:
Digital skills and competences is directed at national strategies to strengthen digital skills and competences in primary, secondary and higher education, and provide adult and lifelong learning opportunities to acquire these skills.
Successful digital education and training focuses on preparing to use technology creatively, safely and responsibly. This entails supporting the development and integration of digital technologies into teaching and empowering teachers to use them.
👉 Green Skills Gap
This Forbes article builds on LinkedIn's recent report on the global workforce's readiness to achieve COP28's ambitious goals. It shows a shortage of individuals with green skills: within the EU, only 1 in 9 employees possess them.
As the article highlights, investing in education and training programs focused on green skills is a key step. This involves developing up-to-date curricula and integrating these skills from primary to higher education and vocational training. In light of this insight, the significance of investing in lifelong learning and training initiatives to upskill people becomes even more visible.
