👉 High-level Dutch government official argues for compulsory learning in the labor market
Sandor Gaastra, Secretary-General of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, argues that compulsory education for employees is essential to improving labor productivity in SMEs, which has grown by only 0.45% per year on average over the past decade. He highlights that as technological advancements accelerate, employees need continuous skill development to effectively implement new innovations. However, market forces alone have not encouraged enough investment in upskilling, leading to low adoption of new technologies. Gaastra advocates for a compulsory learning system and learning rights, to foster a learning culture and ensure broader participation in lifelong learning. Read more here.
