👉 Human-centered EdTech: UN Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel Recommendations on Teaching
The United Nations just released the recommendations and summary of deliberations of the Secretary-General’s High-Level Panel on the Teaching Profession in 2023. Find the full document here.
Of particular interest is their section on advancing human-centered education technology. Highlighting technology's transformative potential, the panel recommends integrating digital tools through active human-centered teaching methods. They stress that such tools should empower teachers rather than substitute for them, fostering inquisitive, critical, and creative learning.
👉 How 15-Year-Olds Learn English in the Netherlands
In June 2023, the OECD conducted studies at three schools in the Netherlands to explore how 15-year-olds learn English. Teachers generally acknowledged that digital technologies became useful in English teaching and learning, particularly for increased individualisation, student engagement, access to modern resources, and global awareness. However, concerns on balancing digital and traditional approaches persist, with one school highlighting digital devices as sources of distraction and complexity, as seen in the Netherlands' decision to ban smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches in schools from January 2024.
